Otto Ludwig (February 12, 1813 in Eisfeld; February 25, 1865 in Dresden) was a German writer. Otto Ludwig was born in Eisfeld, Thuringia, and attended elementary school there. In 1825, one year after starting elementary school, his father, Ernst Friedrich, city counsel and ducal court advocate of Saxe-Meiningen, died at the age of 46. In 1828, he transferred to the Georgianum Gymnasium in nearby Hildburghausen. In 1829, he left high school and two years later went to the Saalfeld Lyceum. In the same year, his mother, Sophie Christiane, née Otto, died. After a two-year stay in Saalfeld, he returned to his garden house in Eisfeld, where he devoted himself to musical and literary studies. In 1834, he performed the operas "The Brothers and Sisters" and "The Charcoal Burner" in the local Schützenhaus in Eisfeld. (Source: Wikipedia)

He lived a secluded life, concentrating on his work.
