On November 2, 1858, the 130.1-kilometer-long railway line of the Werra Railway Company from Eisenach to Coburg was ceremoniously inaugurated. The entire line to Lichtenfels went into operation on January 24, 1859. Breitungen (Werra) only received a stop on July 20, 1886. The multi-section, single-story station building with a gable roof on the side was a brick building. The building had a gable projection (a component that protrudes from the facade) on the track side, through which travelers could reach the waiting room and the ticket and baggage counter.
