Irregularities in the riverbed, such as small depressions, bumps, or harder rock inclusions, can cause the water to swirl. These initial eddies create a rotating water movement with increased flow velocity and a grinding effect directly on the riverbed.

A small stone hut crouches on the mountainside, the grey slate stones are overgrown with moss in the joints, giving the hut the appearance of being a natural part of the landscape. A narrow path winds up the slope to the hut.
