Very beautiful place

Long before the discovery of electricity and the inventions associated with it, our ancestors discovered the possibility of harnessing the power of the elements - which could be useful on the one hand, but could also be a threat as a force of nature on the other - for various purposes. A good example of the human inventiveness of earlier generations is such a mill: the heavy millstones used to grind grain or press oil, for example, could be powered by water or - as here - the wind. Hardly any of them still fulfil their original functions today, but fortunately some have at least survived as evidence of the old days.

The Saint-Laurent bridge spans the Saône. It has twelve stone arches and has retained its post-World War II appearance. It is classified as a historic monument.

The hotel is in a great location nearby: Auberge Les Hauts de Chenas http://www.hautsdechenas.fr. It also houses a small museum about winemaking in the region. I can only recommend it from my own experience.

Mâcon, gateway to Southern Burgundy, is a beautiful flowery town located on the right bank of the Saône. Cyclists benefit from its numerous cycle paths and its Voie Bleue.

Secure cycle path and very pleasant pedestrian cohabitation. Be careful, one-way bike lane with very good continuity towards the roundabout on the Ain side.
