First mentioned in 1610, the hammer mill was part of Hainbücht until it was incorporated by Stadtroda. In the years since it was founded, the mill has been constantly expanded to include a grinding mill, oil mill and grinding mill. In 1953 the mill was stopped. Today the Hammermühle is a popular hotel for high demands.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe allegedly changed his horses here and Napoleon is said to have been here before. In any case, the old mill with its chic half-timbered buildings has been lovingly renovated and converted into a hotel with a wellness room (in the former pigsty) and a restaurant.
