In the Siebengebirge three steles will describe the life and work of Beethoven in the Heisterbach monastery, on the Petersberg and on the Drachenfels plateau.
So that these steles do not stand alone in these certainly striking places for Beethoven, they were connected with a hiking trail.

The wayside crosses refer to the centuries-old pilgrimage tradition on the Petersberg. The creation of the
The Cistercian monastery and the construction of the church at the end of the 12th century mark the beginning of the pilgrimages to the Petersberg. After the monastery had moved to the Heisterbach Valley, the pilgrimages and the associated indulgences continued. The wayside crosses that have been preserved refer to the total of four Bittwege from different directions to the Petersberg, namely from Königswinter, Ittenbach, Heisterbach and Ober- and Niederdollendorf.
