Pilgrimage church Gügel was first mentioned as a castle with a chapel in 1274 and rebuilt after destruction in the Peasants' War in 1525. Very interesting is the access to the church from the back side over very narrow corridors and stairs. Makes children happy too!

The pilgrimage church stands on a rock. An annex with the sacristy is located on a ledge. Partly inserted into the west wall, a tower rises. To the west there is a terrace to which a staircase leads.
In the basement of the choir there is a chapel, from which you can reach the nave via a spiral staircase through a corridor carved into the rock.
The high altar from 1630/32 shows a view of the pilgrimage church with the silhouette of Bamberg in the background. The pulpit comes from Bamberg Cathedral, from which it was removed during the purification in the 19th century.
The Franconian Marienweg runs past the pilgrimage church.Source: Wikipedia

Pilgrimage church, St. Pancratius consecrated. Worthwhile goal with a steep climb over the Kreuzweg (alternatively by car).
Baroque interior with an altar of Mary. Under the choir is a chapel designed as a Lourdes grotto.
Small inn with beer garden invites you to snack. This can also be brought along.
