The Werra Castle Trail with the sign X5 is a 500 km long Fernwanderweg.Er begins in Hann. Münden in southern Lower Saxony and leads along the river Werra through the northeastern Hesse and western Thuringia to Masserberg. The 128-kilometer section of Hann. Münden to Nentershausen with the special route sign "X5 H" is certified as a quality hiking trail.
Already in 1885 the hikers of the Werratalverein laid the oldest section from the Wartburg in Eisenach to Hann. Münden. Divided by the inner German border, further routes were created and united after the turn. The Werra Castle Trail was extended in 2011 to the sources of the Werra.
