Small, heavily weathered signpost to the "Waldschlößchen" in the Friedenshöhe facility. Unfortunately I cannot find further information about the Stein / Waldschlößchen yet ...

The Friedenshöhe Park is one of the twelve central parks in Wuppertal. After 500 years of looting and destruction of forests in the period of early industrialization - at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century - it was bought together from small, parceled private property, planned and developed as a park

The city of Elberfeld bought remaining forest areas in the area of the Friedenshöhe in order to withdraw them from building land speculation. The population in Elberfeld had increased eightfold in the 19th century, and many of the forests in the valley had already been cut down to make way for new building areas. Baron August III. von der Heydt (1851 to 1929), who was a great nature lover, was involved in the rescue. He had bought around 830,000 square meters of fallow and bush forest land so that they would not be built on. On the Friedenshöhe, for example, he made the area available for the sports field that still exists today.

The Elberfeld Beautification Association, founded in 1870 as one of the first nature and environmental protection associations in Germany as a result of the ongoing destruction of nature, was probably the most important player in the development of the Friedenshöhe. The park design essentially only began after the beautification association had hired the garden technician Ruprecht in 1895. In 1902, the association and the city of Elberfeld had already bought together almost 84 percent of today's Friedenshöhe / Freudenberg forest park area of 25.82 hectares. The beautification association dissolved in 1953, and ownership went to the city of Wuppertal.
