The lumbles are sea birds, which are widespread in the northern hemisphere. Only at hatching time do they stay on the coasts. Around 3000 pairs of lobes are currently breeding on Heligoland, the number has increased in the past 20 years. The louts have something of a penguin, a black and brown plumage with a very white belly. The Lummenfelsen on Helgoland is the only place in Germany where you can experience the natural spectacle of the "Lummensprungs" every June. The three-week-old, still flightless chicks of guillemots jump from 40 meters height from their breeding place directly into the sea.
