The saga of the Bremer Gluckhenne is the most famous Bremen saga and is considered the founding legend of the Hanseatic city. In short: a mother hen is said to have shown a desperate group of people on a Weser barge the way to a safe sand dune during a storm. They settled there and founded Bremen. At the town hall there has been a stone hen on a nest in the second arch of the arcades since 1612, held by a woman in a waving robe. Four chicks sit in the nest.

The Bremen Town Hall and the Roland, together with the town musicians, are among Bremen's most famous sights. City Hall and Roland have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List as cultural monuments since 2004. A special detail: the Bremen Town Hall is the only town hall in the world to receive this honor.

For me, the town hall is the most beautiful building in the city of Bremen. I loved it as a child. Every time I looked for the chicken and its chicks. It was particularly atmospheric during the annual Christmas singing with the DRK in the upper town hall.
If you have the opportunity to visit it from the inside, you should definitely use it.
The town hall is guarded by the Bremen Roland.
