Mýtina is located about 13 kilometers southeast of Cheb near the German border in the foothills of the Tillenberger forest. The village was created in the Frais in the 14th century. Nearby was a fortress, which later fell apart. Even before the Second World War, more than 800 people lived in the village, almost exclusively Germans. After the Second World War and the coup in 1948, the village was completely isolated due to its geographical proximity to the border. Over 90% of the buildings were demolished. The remaining buildings are in a desolate condition and are only partially inhabited. During the Cold War, a now abandoned and decaying border guard barracks was built in the village.
