The cathedral to Maribo
The cathedral has a beautiful location on Søndersø next to the remains of the old Birgitten monastery. The monastery was founded in 1416 by Erich I of Denmark, who bears the name of Erich of Pomerania in Denmark, on the basis of donations from Queen Margrete I, Denmark's first wife on the throne. The Birgitte Monastery and the church, which was built according to the rules of Saint Birgitta of Vadstena, belonged together. A few years after the Reformation in 1566 a noble young lady was founded here. Today, the old monastery church is the only thing left of the monastery. Since the beginning of the 19th century the church is the cathedral of the convent Lolland-Falster.This church is Denmark's only hall church in the true sense, because it consists of almost three equal naves under a common roof. The image of Saint Birgitta on an altarpiece in the church is probably the oldest still-preserved canvas painting in Scandinavia. The Maribo Cathedral houses irreplaceable historical gems such as royal bibles and silver chalices. In the Armory are brochures that tell the interesting story of the cathedral, and each year bring joy to the thousands of visitors to the Maribo Cathedral.de.naturparkmaribo.dk/der-dom-zu-maribo.html
