Well worth a visit. Grounds small but if the weather is good nice to relax outside after looking around the house.
Thomas Hardy designed and had built Max Gate after he had made it as a writer and poet, living there from 1885 until his death in 1928.
Now a National Trust property. No longer offers refreshments so bring your own.

Max Gate where Hardy lived in later life and he designed the house himself and commissioned his father and brother to build it.

What a wonderful place: time seems to have stood still here. While some of the furniture has been reconstructed, it's fortunate that Hardy's house has been so completely preserved: a fascinating journey into the Victorian England of one of the world's leading authors... the room where he wrote many of his poems and novels, an enchanting garden, and even the somewhat quirky "Pet Sematary," where several dogs and cats were buried.
So much of the atmosphere is still preserved here: a must-see, ideally with a guided tour: it's worth it.
