The Doggererzvorkommen (Dogger = erdgeschichtliche epoch within the Jura, so 200 to 145 million years ago) in the brown Jura Franconia are significant in terms of their iron content, their extent and their power. Larger deposits have been developed according to plan at Vorra, Hohenstadt and Hersbruck, although lower iron contents have been present in this area.
The iron sandstone of the Hersbruck area is characterized by the emergence of here quite rich Rotheisenoolithflötze, which have been temporarily reduced in many places or digested by mining experiments. At Hersbruck now it was the pit Röschen which was in operation for a long time.
In Hersbruck there is still a street with the name "Eisenhüttlein"; a hint of an iron melt (later Farbbrennhütte).Source mineralienatlas.de/lexikon
