An eagle marks it. Already he is impressive. At this point, the sailors are reminded, who went to sea in their submarines. 35,000 names are to be immortalized here. I had goose bumps when I left the semicircle.
Never again, I thought.

On the east bank of the Kiel Fjord, on the former "Möltenorter Schanze" in Heikendorf, is the Möltenort submarine memorial, in which the losses and victims of the submarine war are commemorated.
The submarine memorial is a place of silence and remembrance, but also a reminder. The names of more than 35,000 submariners from both world wars are recorded on bronze plaques. The soldiers who gave their lives on submarines in peace are also remembered here. In addition, the memorial commemorates all victims of the submarine war. The front facade facing the lake is flanked by two "honorary halls", which also mark the entrances to the semicircular tour with bronze plaques on which the names of the fallen are recorded.
The U-Boot-Ehrenmal Möltenort is looked after by the Volksbund together with the U-Boot-Ehrenmal Foundation and the U-Boot-Kameradschaft Kiel. (Excerpt from schleswig-holstein.volksbund.de).
I can only confirm the experience I have already had, a place that gets under your skin and gives rise to a very depressing feeling and the hope that something like this will never happen again.
