The 159m Kupferberg is also called “The High Mountains” on old maps. The site once belonged to the Mülbitz community. In 1890, the council of the city of Großenhain acquired the land from landowner Hässlich, which stretched from the Mülbitz-Weßnitzer Weg over the summit to the former “Lehmgrubenweg” (coming from Zschauitz). In 1890, the first elevated water tank for the city water pipe was built, with a keeper's house to the east. The central part of the mountain was planted in 1894 by the town's beautification association and a lookout tower was built. In 1928 the pub next to the observation tower attached to the former keeper's house was opened. From this tower you had a very good view into the distance until the 1930s. However, the trees grew so high that there was hardly any unobstructed view, so the tower was topped up with a wooden structure in 2012.
