It was built according to a design by the Kappelner architect Heinrich Ickle in 1952 (start of construction August 16, 1952) and inaugurated in the same year by Bishop Wester of Schleswig (November 22, 1952). The Maasholmer Petri Church, like the Arnis Church, is a boatman's church. The Petrikirche is a white church with a red gable roof. On the gable roof is the church tower with the church bell, which was donated by the Kappelner merchant Martin Klenke. The interior of the church is Decorated with a wooden relief -Petri Fischzug- and a votive ship of the three-master Mayflower. The Maasholmer church is one of the first church buildings in Schleswig-Holstein in the German post-war period. The construction costs at that time were around 25,000 DM.
