Rotschild Castle (new town hall) - Hemsbach 🚴‍♂️

Preserving a listed building is an exciting and challenging undertaking. This is especially true for the former Rothschild Castle in Hemsbach, a cultural monument of particular importance, as it has served as the town hall since 1928.
Located in a central location, it plays a decisive role in shaping the old town center of the town with its approximately 12,000 residents, thus creating a strong sense of identity. The eventful history of one of the architectural gems on the Bergstrasse begins in 1762, when the Electoral Hunting Councilor Franz Blesen purchased the old castle estate and, in 1764, had a two-story plastered building in the style of an Italian villa built on the site of the former stables of the old Tiefburg castle. Today, this building forms the central wing of the castle. After several changes of ownership, the Frankfurt banker Baron Carl Mayer Freiherr von Rothschild acquired the property in 1839, which still bears his name today. Around 1850, Rothschild had the villa expanded with two wings and two floors. This gave the building its present Mediterranean appearance. A large park with select plants complemented the property.
After Rothschild, the castle had many owners, then gradually fell into disrepair. In 1925, the municipality finally acquired the by then rather dilapidated property. After renovations and some structural changes, the administration moved into the castle, now (also) called the "New Town Hall," in 1928. 🚴‍♂️

Today there is a huge town hall for the size of the town. Beautiful grounds. It makes sense to drive past here.
