In contrast to the market trading center on the cathedral square, which exceeds the Wenigemarkt with a size of 3.5 hectares, the Wenigemarkt with its 60 meters side length is a small market. And this is exactly what the name of this place at the end of the Krämerbrücke: Wenigemarkt (once Wenygemaarte) - that means something like "small market".Documentary mention found the Wenigemarkt (in parvo foro) in the early 13th century. It is believed, however, that here two centuries before trading with various goods was operated. Over time, the "small market" proved too small, which is why only regional products were sold here. Piece by piece he lost importance as a trading place.
The face of the square is determined by the medieval Aegidienkirche, which serves as the conclusion of the Krämerbrücke at the eastern entrance. Noteworthy are the surrounding architecture from the 19th century as well as the small fountain lined with trees and benches. Since 1990 he is decorated with a bronze statue of the Magdeburg sculptor Heinrich Apel. It bears the name "Raufende Knaben".
