The war memorial was created by the Senden-born sculptor Prof. Wilhelm Haverkamp in 1909 in honor of the five soldiers who fell in the German-Danish (1866) and French (1870/71) wars. It represents the Archangel Michael, the patron saint of the Germans (German Michel). During World War II, the bronze monument, which weighs around 500 kg, was to be melted down. This was prevented by the intervention of the then mayor and the personal efforts of a Senden citizen in Berlin.

In 1958, the St. Johanni Brotherhood initiated the construction of a surrounding wall with the 16 plaques of the fallen soldiers and missing persons from both world wars (1914-18 and 1939-45). The plaques were designed by the Sendner sculptor Alexander Frerichmann.

The richly structured base made of bluish Kösseine granite has the shape of a sarcophagus. On it is a neo-renaissance bronze figure of the Archangel Michael with a sword, shield and a garlanded steel helmet. The monument was inaugurated on August 29th (Sedan Day).
The figure is signed: 1909 Wilhelm Haverkamp, born March 4th, 1864 in Senden
