Candlemakers' Row was once the main thoroughfare from Grassmarket out of Edinburgh, connecting with Jamaica Street (now Chamber Street), which ended at Blackfriars Abbey (at the foot of Infirmary Street). Candlemakers' Row winds from Grassmarket at Cowgatehead to Greyfriars Place at George IV Bridge and Chamber Street, where the Scottish National Museum stands. At the top of Candlemakers' Row is the statue of Greyfriars Bobby, an Edinburgh icon. On the small street to the east half way up Candlemakers' Row (Merchant Street) you have restaurants, pubs and accommodation. This street is a dead end. On the west side of Candlemakers' Row is Greyfriars Graveyard, where many of Edinburgh's famous people are buried.

Candlemaker Row is a historic, narrow street in Edinburgh’s Old Town that links the Grassmarket area to the George IV Bridge. Known for its old-world charm and unique blend of shops and pubs, it’s a favorite spot for both tourists and locals. The street has connections to some of Edinburgh's most famous historical sites and legends, making it a fascinating stop for history buffs.
