The Holstentor ("Holstein Gate") is a city gate that limits the old town of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck to the west. It is the landmark of the city. Since 1950, the City History Museum of Lübeck has been located in the rooms of the Holstentor. The late Gothic building is one of the remains of Lübeck's city fortifications. The Holstentor is next to the castle gate the only preserved city gate Lübeck. For more than 300 years, it stood as a "Middle Holstentor" in a row with three other Holstentoren, which were demolished in the 19th century. The Mittlerer Holstentor, today known as the "Holstentor", has been restored several times, most recently in 2005/2006.Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holstentor

A must if you are in Lübeck! Many do not remember, but until nearly 20 years ago many people often took a picture of the Holstentor ;-)
