Office building with Ilmenau information and GoetheStadtMuseumCountess Sophie von Henneberg had the office building built in 1616 as a widow's residence. After the city fire in 1752, the building was rebuilt according to the plans of the Baroque master builder Gottfried Heinrich Krohne, so that it already 1756 offered service rooms for the bailiff and on the first floor living rooms for the ducal family. During his stays in Ilmenau, Goethe occupied the southeastern corner room.Today, the Baroque building houses the Ilmenau Information and the GoetheStadtMuseum with a permanent exhibition on Goethe as poet, civil servant and naturalist as well as special exhibitions.
