Bike Touring Highlight
"Alcudia is probably the oldest city in Majorca, and the heart of this historic town is still surrounded by an imposing and well-preserved 14th-century city wall, with the old town of Alcudia almost completely enclosed by it and forming part of the wall restored and is walkable.A walk on the city wall offers a fantastic view over the rooftops of the old town of Alcudia, the bay of Alcudia and Pollenca as well as the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana. Below we present some interesting information about the city wall of Alcudia and a series of photos of the city walls and the old town of Alcudia, with its narrow streets, historic buildings, restaurants, cafés, small shops and much more. The construction of the city wall of Alcudia was begun at the end of the 13th century in 1298 and in 1362 the work was initially completed. In the following centuries, however, the site was then constantly improved, as Alcudia was repeatedly exposed because of its strategic location in the north of Mallorca and on the seafront attacks. Among other things, the city walls were reinforced after the German War in 1523 with three gates, the Xara, Vila Roja and Església.
The city wall of Alcudia has an average height of 6 meters, and had up to 26 towers, which were distributed over a length of 1.5 kilometers around the old town. In addition, the city wall was surrounded by a moat, which is still preserved today. From the city gates are still the Porta de Sant Sebastià (also called Porta de Mallorca) and Porta del Moll (also Porta de Xara) preserved and shape the image of the city.
