    Border eagle at Oberhof
The border eagle on the Rennsteig near Oberhof is a distinctive landmark At the time of construction, he marked the state border between the Kingdom of Prussia to the north adjacent Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Nearby are today the Biathlonstadion and the ski jumping facility in the Kanzlersgrund. The also nearby
Liche Rennstteighaus should not go unmentioned. Here you can also get tour tips and maps.

In consequence of the German war 1866 the circle Schmalkalden of Prussia was annexed and along the hitherto kurhessischen border all boundary marking stones with the "kurhessischen lion" were replaced by stones with the royally Prussian eagle coat of arms. The landmark in question is an approximately 1.80 m high stone, which is rounded off in accordance with the regulations on the top. On the show side (to the street) is a cast-iron metal plate with the Prussian coat of arms motif embedded.
