Bach started his world career in Arnstadt. At the age of 18, Johann Sebastian Bach began his first employment as an organist at the New Church in Arnstadt. The young Bach not only falls in love with Arnstadt in his first wife Maria Barbara, he also makes some escapades in the then royal residence. He voluntarily extends a holiday for a four-week study trip to Lübeck to more than three months. His organ playing also gets into criticism. "He too often changes the key, playing dissonant accompaniment chords and confusing the church with unusual sounds."
Other circumstances that show his young and spirited nature, can be found in records again: he led a stranger maiden on the gallery and a tangible confrontation with his choir student Geyersbach delivered in the marketplace. (Source: Thuringian Town Information)
