Today's Karlsaue was built by Landgrave Carl von Hessen-Cassel in front of the orangery. It lies between the Fulda and an arm of the Fulda. This western arm is still called Kleine Fulda today, but no longer carries Fuldawasser. Overall, however, the Karlsaue goes back to a predecessor garden from 1568.The Karlsaue is now a very extensive park, which is publicly and freely accessible with an area of 1500 m² (with the exception of the island of Siebenbergen). The green areas are very well maintained.
