The highest (970 m) and at the same time one of the most beautiful viewpoints directly on the Rennsteig, above the town of Suhl, where the Rennsteig reaches its highest point (973 m), bears the name of the "inventor" of the Rennsteig hike. The path runs here on the south side of the Großer Beerberges just below the summit past, the highest in the Thuringian Forest (982 m), which in turn has no significant views to offer, but at least as a protected bog biotope of high value. In the foreground deep below Heidersbach and Goldlauter and on both sides of steep mountains (to the right of Domberg with the Bismarckturm, left of the Ring and Döllberg) included Kreisfreie Stadt Suhl (in GDR times one of 13 district capitals), in the background If you have a good view, you can see as far as the Rhön and far in the direction of Coburg. An annotated panorama picture is placed on the wooden viewing platform for orientation. It was made by Roland Kastner of the Ortsgruppe Suhl of the Rennsteigverein. The adventurous life of Julius von Plänckner:
