Road Cycling Highlight
The former Obermain Bridge today relieves the old bridge as an important link between downtown and Sachsenhausen. Since December 2000 she was named in Ignatz-Bubis Bridge. Over the bridge lead the federal highway 3, the tram lines and the Ebbelwei-Express. The bridge was built in the years 1876 to 1878. The pillars, the balustrade, the abutments and the pier coronations were made of red sandstone. The superstructure of the openings consisted of wrought-iron arches. In the reconstruction after the Second World War, the old sandstone pillars were preserved, so that the character of the bridge was basically preserved. At the beginning of the 20th century, the bridge was popularly called "Metzgerbrücke", because since 1884 the slaughterhouse was on the Sachsenhäuser side. The bridge was therefore the shortest way to work for butchers. Today, the bridge is used exclusively in the direction of Sachsenhausen. For since the commissioning of the Flößerbrücke the traffic flows northwards over this neighboring bridge.Type: lower arch / steel compartment bridge
