On the corner of Nieuwstadstraat and Gerdingerstraat is the sisterhood statue, made in 1990 by artist Stefan Bongaerts from Bree. The bronze sculpture group represents Bree with the 3 sister cities: Geldern (Germany), Volpago del Montello (Italy) and Salomo (Catalonia). It was placed on the occasion of the Four Cities Meeting in 1990. Three scale models were made of this statue, which now adorn the town halls of the respective sister cities.
