A 1480 prevailing storm is said to have destroyed Gainfurt.Legend, saga or tragic fate. Stories persist, so in the Middle Ages a whole village was devastated, because the inhabitants had not kept to a prevailing ban on dancing on a Trinity Sunday. According to legend, a dove flew into the dance hall, which was then chased away. Then a downpour broke and destroyed the entire village. Gainfurt was first mentioned in 1296. It was located above the river Main on a hill near the Leitengraben, directly at the former DB Gambach station.
Landmarks of the district Gainfurt still bear the border mark G.E.F.
Medieval ceramic finds were found in the former construction of the sewage treatment plant and brickyard.
There is also a stone cross with a Gothic inscription, which is said to have come from Gainfurt and was walled up in the Gambacher cemetery in the local well.
