The lifting bridges on the castle gate have been registered as technical monuments in the monument book of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. Its towers are a particularly good illustration of the architectural concept of the Wilhelminian era. They are built in neo-gothic style and not only ornamental accessories, but nacelles for the Brückenanlagen.Thebroadhubbrücke as well as the railway bridge are moved hydraulically. In each case a bridge (bridge superstructure) and a counterweight in the operating tower are connected by a filled with glycerol-water mixture hydraulic system. The bridge is held by ballast iron in slight overweight. If it is to be lifted, the counterweight in the operating tower is pushed down over racks by an electric motor. The up and down movement of the bridge is secured against tilting by synchronizing shafts and racks on the opposite supports and manually controlled by the bridge operator. The railway bridge was decommissioned in November 2009. It is no longer needed by the operator of the rail network.

The Hubbrücke, actually called Marstallbrücke (named after the Marstall located to the south), is a movable bridge with its own supporting structure for railways, road vehicles and pedestrians in Lübeck. It is one of more than 200 bridges in Lübeck and is listed as a technical monument since 1988.
