Old apple orchard, formerly ducal kitchen garden
This was the first kitchen garden of the Plöner Residenz under Duke Joachim Ernst, the builder of the Plöner Schloss, at the beginning of the 17th century. In Prussian times it was used as an orchard. The restoration and supplement took place under the auspices of the Association Friends of the Plön Prinzenhauses e. V. as a project, Alter Apfelgarten ', which was supplemented by the construction of a modern lookout pavilion based on the historical model of a tea pavilion from the time of King Christian VIII. Many historical fruits were cataloged there and other historical varieties - apples and pears - planted.

Garden monument "Alter Apfelgarten"
Since 2006, the association has been a member of the Friends of the Plöner Prinzenhauses e. V. leased. Because of the completely overgrown area, which was largely covered by forest cover, as well as unclear ownership and the right to have a say from various authorities, the revitalization was a very time-consuming task. In addition to intensive volunteer work in the practical and planning field, she also needed the financial support of various institutions. In 2011, the inauguration of the pavilion made a dream come true.Today, the protected garden monument offers a very special experience space for the general public:In the form of a meadow orchard today about 140 trees of old apple varieties are on the site. At first there were 40 trees. Gradually, the stock increased; On the one hand by endowment during the revitalization phase of the site, on the other hand due to high demand for tree sponsorships.A nice destination for the walker in the viewing pavilion, which offers fantastic historical views of the castle and lake through sightlines. In the midst of wildflower meadows, insect hotel and apple trees, the visitor should have a quiet place. Therefore, a special use of the pavilion must be agreed with the club.A beekeeper from Plön has set up several hives at the edge of the forest. The honey (spring and summer) from the Alte Apfelgarten can be purchased at Blumen Schröder, Eutiner Str. 24 in Plön.
