Steinweg 33 "Koffer-Beyreiß" was built in 1902 in Art Nouveau style. It has a timber frame with color windows and a "beehive" under the bay window at the corner. From 1930 to 2017, the leather goods store Beyreiß is located in the building.
The shop was from the beginning a workshop. There were made suitcases of all kinds and knapsacks, but mainly made repairs.
Master Tanner Karl Heinz Müller had worked in the workshop in Breitenstraße, which had moved from Breitenstraße to Haus am Steinweg at the end of the forties. Master Müller worked for Beyreiß for 60 years until 2005 and belonged to the family.
Suitcase Beyreiß has always been privately owned as one of the few private dealers in Mühlhausen. Gudrun Bastubbe has learned in her parents' shop. In 1997 she took over the retail business and of course her regular customers. Twice the shop was modernized after the turnaround. The sale began in early December 2017. Now the beautiful store is empty for now.
