The mountain rescue hut was built by the members of the mountain rescue itself in the 60s, even the stones were cast themselves. Before the cell phone was widely used, the hut was occupied on weekends and public holidays with several mountain guards and first stop for hikers and skiers in emergency situations. Today the hut is still staffed with an honorary member for emergencies on Sundays. In good weather, the view extends to the whetstone in the Thuringian part of the Franconian Forest.
