Bled is a postcard beauty: in the middle of the village is a lake framed by mountains with a romantic church island, on the high cliff bank a spectacular castle. The water is suitable for bathing until well into autumn. You can poke yourself to the island of love on a Pletna, a kind of gondola. The then Yugoslav President Tito invited heads of state from all over the world to “his” villa in “Villa Bled”: Fidel Castro, Muammar al-Gaddafi, Indira Gandhi and Willy Brandt ... They were all here, strolling through the large park and looking at the huge battle painting in the cinema that celebrates Yugoslavia's path to socialism in propaganda style. Today the mural is discreetly hidden behind a curtain, but is shown on request. The villa's own jetty, on the other hand, is always accessible, where you can chill out or go rowing on the lake in one of the hotel boats.
