Did not climb climb or bridge
For many Hamburgers and visitors, it is the heart of the city center: the Jungfernstieg - a multifaceted connection between the Binnenalster, surrounding shops and sights.
For the hamburgers, the historical significance of the boulevard plays an important role: In the past, families used to go for a walk on Sunday and run their unmarried daughters ("maidens") - hence the name. And even today, the Jungfernstieg is something very special: one enjoys being right on the water - the Binnenalster -, arranges to meet in this central location and starts shopping in the adjacent department stores - especially the well-known and traditional Alsterhaus - and small but fine shops.
After a break and refreshment in the Alsterpavillon, you continue to the surrounding shopping zones and passages. In the passage "Hamburger Hof" or the "Hanse-Viertel" a little further back, shopping becomes a culture: the big department stores and exquisite shops outdo each other with their exclusive offers. The day can then be completed beautifully with an ice cream and back on the water: Alternatively, a dusk on the Alster steamers.
