    cats stones
In the "Mechernicher Wald", which extends from the eastern boundary of Mechernich to Satzvey, the cat stones rise on the border to the Veybachaue near Katzvey. The striking rock formation from Buntsandstein natural rocks comes from a powerful river deposit that covered the entire Eifel about 220 million years ago. Over the millions of years, uplift and subsidence of the earth's crust and rain, wind and frost have contributed to the current appearance. The resulting overhanging rocks provided a natural protection against adverse weather conditions.
With growing tourism, the "Katzensteine" became a popular destination. Unfortunately, there is a great danger that a rare archaeological monument in its significance for the settlement history of the Eifel will suffer irreparable damage.Help them, that it does not come to that: Please do not knock souvenirs out of the rocks, do not drive with bicycles and the like. Already the sight impressed.
