BeginningsImage: double chapel (imperial chapel)Double chapel (imperial chapel)Nuremberg, documented for the first time as a royal estate in 1050, was an important base of their imperial and domestic power policy during the times of the Salian and Hohenstaufen kings and emperors. The castle and town formed a preferred place of residence for the traveling rulers who held court days and imperial assemblies here. For this purpose, the Staufer built an extensive Palatinate complex on the castle rock - over older buildings - which still shapes the appearance of the Imperial Castle today. To administer the Reichsgut and to maintain order, they installed a burgrave, who resided in the front area of the complex (so-called burgrave castle). In 1191 the office of burgrave passed to the counts of Zollern.Further information: kaiserburg-nuernberg.de/deutsch/burg/index.htm
