Seeon Monastery and St. Lambert's Monastery Church was founded in 994 by Count Palatine Aribo I and his wife Adala. It had only modest accommodation for the monks and a small church. Not until the end of the 11th century a new building of the monastery was built in Romanesque style. However, this building was only a short century, and around 1180 was built the essentially existing church with an apse as a conclusion to the east. The church was rebuilt again at the beginning of the 15th century. by Konrad Pürkhel. Unique is the painting of the church with the renaissance frescoes from 1579. Worth seeing is also the tombstone of red marble by Abbot Hornorat Kolb as well as in the castle chapel on the walls lined tombstones of abbots from the 15th and. 16.Jh .. In the middle of the room stands the founder grave of Count Palatine Aribo I. This masterful work is attributed to Hans Heider in 1400. To visit is also the recently renovated cloister cloister. The original of the famous "Madonna and Child" 1433 - created by the so-called "Master of Seeon" - is considered one of the most beautiful representations of Mary with the child from the time of the soft style in the Salzburger Kunstkreis. It can be admired since 1855 in the National Museum in Munich. A copy stands since 1947 in the high altar of the parish church Seeon.
