Bike Touring Highlight
The Connewitz lock has been in operation since 2011 and was built as part of the so-called "water tourism usage concept" (WTNK), which is still controversial today. The lock connects the Pleiße and thus also the 'course 1' with the sensitive raft ditch with the city center. For years, the green faction has been calling for the WTNK to be consistently aligned with the requirements of nature conservation, water ecology and the floodplain development concept. When the WTNK was originally drawn up, which took place without a legal framework, one had only economic considerations in mind. However, we must be careful that the alluvial forest does not become a backdrop for mass tourism and boat traffic, and we must ensure that environmental and nature conservation issues have top priority and that water tourism comes second.
