.... Visible from afar is the Luisenturm, erected in 1864 on the 515 m high Hummelsberg near Kleinkochberg. The tower is 18 m high and 78 steps lead up to the viewing platform. From here, the view extends far beyond the Saale valley and the Saale-Ilm plate up to the ridges of the Franconian Forest and the Thuringian Forest. .... (luisenturm.de)

The Luisenturm near Kleinkochberg is an 18 m high observation tower on the Hummelsberg (515 meters). It was inaugurated in 1864 and named after Luise von Stein (the granddaughter of Charlotte von Stein), who lived at Hirschhügel Castle (Wikipedia).

The tower was built in honor of Charlotte von Stein's granddaughter, Luise Freiin von Stein (1804–1864). The donor was the husband James Patrick von Parry, a rich Englishman of Irish descent, who also built Hirschhügel Castle. A plaque commemorates the founder. The tower bears stylistic features of the late Romantic period, which are reinforced by the extensive crenellated wall that surrounds the tower and gives the area the character of a medieval castle. Above the entrance is Parry's coat of arms, who was ennobled in Weimar. The place where the tower was built is said to have been Luise von Stein's favorite spot.
It's a place I really recommend, not just for the history. It is a magical place with a great view that spreads peace, serenity and well-being.The tower is open on public holidays and weekends.

It is always great to stay for a hike or bike ride on the Luisenturm. Here you can have a picnic on one of the Rehraufen and enjoy the view of the Hexengrund!
