The Valentré bridge is one of the emblematic monuments of the city of Cahors. One of a kind, it impresses.

This defensive bridge was built from 1308 by order of the consuls of the city. Its immaculate condition is due to its restoration in the 1880s.

By paying attention to the different sculptures you may notice a frightened devil. The bridge is indeed nicknamed the Devil's Bridge: The architect in charge of the restoration at the beginning of the 19th century, Paul Gout, had this legend immortalized by a carved stone. This one represents the devil trying to pull the stone from the bridge without succeeding.

Magnificent point, very atypical and with a Mayen-Ageux character! It is really worth the detour!!

The Pont Valentré is a medieval bridge spanning the River Lot in the town of Cahors. The bridge is 172 meters long, and has eight arches. Three square towers were built on the bridge, which were intended to defend the city of Cahors. Known as the symbol of the city, the Pont Valentré is one of the best-preserved medieval fortress bridges in France.
