Wallwachhaus is the name given to a flood protection building.In Wallwachhaus, devices and materials for flood protection are stored at the Wall / Dike. It can also serve as an accommodation for the guards, who can easily overlook the flooded areas of the mostly elevated buildings and have a safe haven in case of flooding.The buildings are sometimes used for other purposes."The Useful with the Beautiful" was the motto of Prince Franz von Anhalt-Dessau. The landscaping created under his government together with his friend Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff included not only castles, parks and gardens, but also the flood protection on the Elbe and Mulde. Thus, the Wallwachhäuser built from 1770 to 1800 were included in the landscape design. Today they are the gems of the cycling and hiking trails in the World Heritage-listed garden kingdom Dessau-Wörlitz.Source:
