Fortaleza de Valença 🏰

This central gate is a good bikeable entry into this amazingly well-preserved fortified town. Note that the north gate approach has stairs, so it's best to just use that for exiting if comfortable walking the bike down (you can roll it down next to the stairs), or use the south main gate.

The walled city has lots to offer, shops, food, and history.

The fortification of Valença, on the left bank of the river Miño, dates back to the 12th century until the 13th century.
It was intended for the defense of the population and the crossing of that stretch of the river.

Nice garrison town with many shops and restaurants.

A signifigant discovery was made here during an escavation of the gate. a Roman staircase dating to first-fourth centuries as unearthed.
