The water flowing out of the Deister has been coming to the surface there for thousands of years. As soon as it comes into contact with air, it separates the lime that has deposited on the edge of the pond in the form of a volcanic crater. This unique geological formation and a neighboring spring well are natural monuments and attractions for locals and holidaymakers alike. As early as the 19th century, the preserving effect of the low-oxygen lime water gave guests the idea of sinking flower arrangements in the spring fountain, which would keep their fresh appearance for months. Generations of spa guests have thrown coins into the well in the hope of a speedy recovery.The crater is located west of Bad Nenndorf and in the immediate vicinity of the federal highway 65. It can be visited all year round, entry is free.
