Bike Touring Highlight
The castle Donzdorf in the middle of the town Donzdorf in the district of Göppingen in Baden-Württemberg was built in 1568 on behalf of Hans von Rechberg to Hohenrechberg to Illeraichen-Scharfenberg. The three-storey Renaissance building with four octagonal towers has been rebuilt several times over the centuries.
1764 to 1765 south of the castle, the castle garden was built as a baroque garden. At the beginning of the 19th century, it was transformed into its current form as an English landscape garden. In the park surrounded by a wall there is a sundial in front of the castle pond.
Through a purchase agreement from 1987, the castle was sold by Count von Rechberg and Rothenlöwen to the city Donzdorf. The castle garden has been open to the public since 1992. Since May 1995, the castle functions as the administrative center of the city Donzdorf. On the ground floor, the Venetian-style castle restaurant, designed by a Venetian architect, houses a historic vaulted hall.
