The complex, consisting of prefabricated wooden buildings based on Norwegian models, was opened in 1913 as the Kaiser Wilhelm Children's Home. Planned and financed by Kaiser Wilhelm II, it served as summer accommodation for children from socially disadvantaged families. The monarch made sure to visit several times. Later, the complex was used as a pioneer summer camp. Since 1992, the Berlin State Sports Association has owned and used the listed complex.
