In the early Middle Ages, there is said to have been a fortification on the Reinberg (hence the field name Purgkhstall = Burgstall). The Marienwarte was built on the initiative of the Beautification Association for Wels and the surrounding area. First, paths were laid out on the Reinberg by this association (1873) and the Reinberg, which was previously meadow and pasture land, was planted with trees (1881). In 1891, Johann Ploberger made the space available for the tower construction free of charge. The building design comes from Johann Schauer, the chairman of the Beautification Association. The execution was entrusted to the builder Kunz. The tower is 22.8 m high.
